Vertical claims LG and Samsung violate patents

Vertical Computer Systems has quietly sued LG and Samsung over allegedly violating its patents with their Android phones. The LG Ally, virtually all Samsung Galaxy S models and the Galaxy Tab all purportedly copy two patents for "generating web sites in an arbitrary object framework." Software developer Interwoven was also targeted by the lawsuit after it had filed its own complaint earlier.

The company has asked for an injunction against all of the companies and is looking for an unspecified amount of damages.

Vertical is rare among lawsuit filers in having actual products, including the Emily XML language, SiteFlash and ResponseFlash but has had a history of filing patent lawsuits, including against Microsoft. The new case was filed in the Eastern District of Texas in the Marshall division, a court region known to rule in favor of patent holders.

Android is currently facing many direct and indirect lawsuits, including from Apple, Gemalto, Microsoft and Oracle. Some of the complaints are strict patent claims, but many are attempts at hurting Android's competitiveness with rival platforms like iOS and Windows Phone.
