Canadian Galaxy S to get Android 2.2 mid-December, US soon?

US Galaxy S Android 2.2 update not far behind?

Samsung Canada, via its Facebook page, has announced that the Samsung Vibrant from Bell and the Samsung Captivate from Rogers will get a firmware update to Android 2.2 in mid-December. The Fascinate from Telus will receive the same upgrade early on in 2011, Samsung adds. The Galaxy S-series phones will be upgraded due to "tremendous interest," Samsung says.

More details on this undertaking are coming, Samsung promises. This also likely means Galaxy S smartphones in the US will get Android 2.2 near the same time, as the networks are similar to those operating in the US that offer the handsets. The timing nonetheless lags behind Google, as the company is near releasing Gingerbread and may leave Samsung phones behind.
