Delta installs 135 iPads at gates in NY's JFK airport

Aim is to entice food sales, coming to LaGuardia

iPads are now installed at Delta seating areas in New York's JFK airport that feature internet access, games and to allow waiting passengers to order food and drink, USA Today reports. The mounted iPads accompany three new restaurants built in the waiting area in Terminal 2 at gates 21 and 22 as well as gate 15 in Terminal 3.

The iPads are free to use and don't require a food or drink order, and OTG Management, the company that provided the iPads, say they won't impose time limits on them. Food is delivered to the passengers via a server from the restaurants. The company plans to expand the idea and install iPads at gate restaurants in the city's LaGuardia airport as well. From other photos I saw...

they don't seem to be attached to those stands by any sort of restraining clamps or cables. I thought they were just put in charging docks. It sure would make them easy to snatch and run with, so I might be wrong. As a store owner, I might not want to put restrainer cables on all of them, but after the first one gets stolen, it'll be cables on all of them.

Maybe if Apple gets lucky, everyone will be carrying their own iPads, anyway. I wonder whose idea it was to choose the iPad for use in airline terminals. Is Gartner's iPad initiative starting to take hold? It would be amazing to see iPad use take hold in family and high-end restaurants as the move would be unprecedented.

And it was a cheap investment for Delta, too!

All they needed was a quick trip to Pittsburgh...
