Last link in the multi-platform chain

Microsoft earlier today placed an ad on their web site -- since reworded -- that revealed they are seeking developers to bring Silverlight to the Xbox 360 and to enhance features in Silverlight for Windows Phone 7 and other platforms. The ad comes ahead of a planned event on the future of the technology scheduled for December 2nd and keynoted by Silverlight project head Scott Guthrie.

The company hopes to vastly increase both its own in-house use of Silverlight in various current and forthcoming products as well as expand the customer and developer base for the product, probably by unifying the development environments for Xbox and Windows Phone 7 -- which already uses Silverlight as a core technology -- along with other platforms. A second ad seeks additional Silverlight developers to add features to "several upcoming devices and shipping devices like Windows Phone."

The ad that betrayed the Xbox intention originally said that the successful candidate "will be responsible for delivering features for Silverlight on the XBox as part of the next wave" of product releases, but has now been edited to remove references to XBox and instead refers only to "the various devices we plan to enable over the coming years." Candidates must have more than five years of professional development experience in C++, and "a willingness to work on new operating systems and languages."
