Android functionality expanded

Barnes & Noble's Nook Color e-book reader has already been hacked to gain root access. Members at XDA Developers posted screenshots of the rooted device running Angry Birds, a function which is not possible using the stock adaptation of Android 2.1.

Users are still working to create an easy hack that will allow others to take advantage of the expanded functionality. Although the device is based on Android 2.1, the manufacturer limited the OS to maintain a focus on e-books.

If the security loophole is not quickly closed, the root hack may allow customers to buy the Nook Color as a $249 Android tablet with Wi-Fi connectivity.
