Sprint, WiMAX 4G now in LA, Miami, four more
Sprint, along with Clearwire, on Monday announced the upcoming launch of its high-speed 4G service in six new markets. The expansion includes Cleveland, Cincinnati and Columbus in Ohio as well as Los Angeles, Miami and Washington, DC. At the same time, Sprint said it will bring the service live in San Francisco on December 28.
This latest announcement brings the total number of Sprint 4G markets to 68. Users can browse up to 10 times faster than on 3G service.
Sprint now has several devices with built-in WiMAX, including the recently introduced Dell Mini 10 and Inspiron 11z netbooks as well as the Epic 4G and Evo 4G among smartphones. Typical speeds hover between 3-6Mbps downstream and can occasionally peak at 10Mbps.
