App restores factory GPS settings

Samsung has released an Android utility that aims to improve GPS functionality for the company's Captivate and Vibrant handsets. The app works by restoring the hidden GPS settings, which are said to be the source of many problems when attempting to establish a fix on the satellite signals.

The Captivate already received an over-the-air update that was claimed to resolve poor GPS performance, following widespread complaints. Users have described problems with establishing a signal and maintaining accurate positioning.

The 'GpsSamsungRestore' app is available as a free download from the Android Market.
