Clear Modem with Wi-Fi now out for $120

Clearwire on Thursday shipped its Clear Modem with Wi-Fi. It will let users link their Wi-Fi devices to Clear's 4G network from a relatively static area like a home or office, offering wireless download speeds of between 3 and 6Mbps, with bursts as fast as 10Mbps. Local connections are shared over 802.11n Wi-Fi, although Clear hasn't said how many devices can sign on at the same time.

The modem is also compatible with Windows XP SP2, Windows Vista 32/64, Windows 7 32/64 and Mac OS 8 or newer. The device is now shipping, priced at $120 or leased for $7 per month. Unlimited data service costs $35 per month. Unlimited local and long distance calling over VoIP can be added for $15 per month.

With the recent launch of Clear 4G in LA, Miami, Washington, DC, Cleveland, Cincinnati and Columbus, Ohio, the service is now available in 68 cities.

These companies should not be allowed to call their network a 4G network as its extremely misleading to customers. All the current Clearwire based 4G networks, including Sprint, are capped at 6mbps, while T-Mobile and AT&T's 3G networks get far far above that speed.
