Verizon LTE modems to be available off-contract

PC Mag contributor Sascha Segan revealed in a Twitter update that Verizon Wireless will soon begin offering LTE USB modems without the thus far required contract. This will likely include the current two offerings from LG and Pantech, and while the monthly rates remain the same, at $50 and $80 depending on the choice of a 5GB or 10GB plan, they will have a $250 purchase price when not attached to a contract.

To date, early adopters could pay just $100 for for the LG VL600 LTE USB Modem and a similar amount for the Pantech UML290, but the only publicly listed choice was to sign up for a two-year plan. Verizon normally has contract-free options for 3G devices but didn't mention them at first for 4G.
