Pandora not bringing out Windows Phone 7 app?
Through a series of tweets, Internet radio app maker Pandora let it be known it may not bring out an app for the Windows Phone 7 platform. While reasons remain unknown, Pandora was listed as a Microsoft Windows Phone 7 launch partner, hinting at a possible change. That Pandora will never develop the app isn't certain as the company wouldn't commit in either direction.
"I'm not sure if/when we'll be available for Win7 phones," the company said.
Thus far, Pandora is available on the other main operating systems save for Symbian, including Android, BlackBerry OS and iOS devices. Pandora is also popular in other consumer electronics, including in automotive head units that link to the service through a driver's smartphone. The move is a potentially large setback for a platform that just broke 3,000 apps and has been counting on major developer support.
The absence of multitasking has been one of the major limitations to Internet radio on WP7, since it won't work if users switch away. Most platforms already had such support, but Apple was still quicker and brought the feature to iOS 4 in June.
