BlackBerry 6 may hit Verizon phones after flyer
A flyer sent to a CrackBerry forum poster today hinted that Verizon's promised BlackBerry 6 updates for its phones were coming very soon. The ad boasts of giving the "social life the power of your business life" with the new OS and lists both the Bold 9650 and the Curve 3G as having BlackBerry 6 installed. While not giving a clue as to the timing, it suggested Verizon was about to ship phones with the platform preloaded and would push upgrades in a similar timeframe.
Neither Verizon nor RIM has confirmed the plans. Verizon already said it would upgrade the Curve 3G, and recent Bold models were included in RIM's longterm upgrades, but neither had given out a specific timeframe. BlackBerry 6 rollouts have had to wait both on RIM and on customizing firmware for the individual carriers.
The update brings a major and primarily visual interface overhaul as well as a new WebKit-based browser and social integration that can merge Twitter and other features into a single messaging feed.
