Aliph unveils Jawbone Thoughts app

Aliph today dipped into mobile apps with Jawbone Thoughts for iOS (free, App Store). The app lets iPhone and newer iPod touch users record a voice message up to a minute long and send it to one or more people at the same time. Others with the app will get a push notification and can listen directly in the app, but those either without the app or a non-Apple device can still get a web link through e-mail or SMS.

The app tracks conversations and lets users create their own groups for frequent messages. If necessary, owners can also get text transcriptions, the first 10 of which are free and the rest available through in-app purchases.

Although meant as a companion to the Jawbone Icon headset, Thoughts works with an Apple device's existing microphone and doesn't have any cost overhead for its core function. Aliph hasn't said how much transcriptions will cost, though Apple's app rules would set a minimum 99-cent price. No mention has been made of versions for Android and other platforms.
