Device already outclassing Linux

The iPad should represent over 2 percent of North American web traffic by the end of 2011, says ad network Chitika. The prediction is based on iPad adoption rates, taken from ad data collected from over 100,000 websites. At the moment the iPad represents just 0.83 percent of Chitika traffic, though this is already on par with the Linux platform, which will likely be eclipsed in short order.

Chitika research director Daniel Ruby specifically suggests that the iPad is on track to reach 2.322 percent. Growth data from the past two months was analyzed, Ruby notes, and extrapolated for another 12 months after ironing out any spikes or sudden dips. Unmentioned in the forecast is the potential impact of the second-generation iPad, which could accelerate or slow adoption depending on its reception.
