v2.2 update arriving weeks after v2.3 exits beta

Internal e-mails allegedly circulated to AT&T staff suggest the carrier will not update its locked Dell Streaks toAndroid 2.2 until next year. The e-mails, posted on Streak Smart, point out that locked devices that shipped with an AT&T SIM will have to wait until the week of January 12 for the over-the-air update.

Dell already released the v2.2 updates for unlocked devices, which began receiving the OTA downloads several weeks ago. The company is also shipping any new handsets with the updated software, which brings improvements to Dell's Stage interface and a list of other enhancements.

AT&T has yet to publicly disclose a specific reason for the delay. In the meantime, customers with locked Streaks will have to wait several weeks after Android 2.3 exited beta testing to receive the v2.2 update.
