Style edits, fonts, plus formulas for spreadsheets

Google recently noted that it has updated Google Docs to bring the full version of the cloud based productivity suite to the iPad. While Google recently updated its mobile version of Google Docs to support editing on smartphones, it acknowledged the feature was somewhat limited. The new version for the iPad allows users to tweak fonts, styles and formatting as they would using the desktop version of the cloud-based app. Similarly, the Google Docs spreadsheet now allows iPad users to insert formulas as they would on the desktop version.

To access the new desktop offering of Google Docs for the iPad, users need to navigate to docs.google.com from the mobile Safari browser on their iPad. However, Google does warn users that mobile browsers are not as powerful as their desktop counterparts and to switch to the mobile version if they experience any issues.

    Not really

It's still not really the same thing as editing on your desktop. (and there is no reason it souldn't be.) Frustrating. Even in documents they are still dividing the doc by "cells" (rows of text).

I purchased Office2 HD for my iPad. (I forget how much, it wasn't too expensive.) It lets me edit word/excel docs, and it integrates fully with Google Docs. (VERY nice.) That said: If Google were serious about the iPad, I wouldn't have had to buy from a 3rd party at all.
