sWaP Rebel watch phone ships in the UK
The Rebel is a watch and phone in one from UK outfit sWaP, which stands for Smart Watch and Phone. At the same time, the device combines a camera, music and video player, an FM radio, calendar and e-book reader. The phone has quad-band GSM support for calls, and users control the entire interface through a 1.46-inch, 176x132 touchscreen.
The watch has limited playback and supports MIDI, WAV, AAC and MP3 audio files and 3GP or MPEG-4 videos. Storage comes in the form of 128MB built-in or a microSD memory card. A loudspeaker and microphone are built-in, or users can pair a Bluetooth A2DP headset with the watch. Power comes from a 240mAh battery, which is said to offer between 130 and 160 minutes of talk time or 85 hours of standby time.
Thus far shipping only in the UK in white, black, orange, green and pink, the Rebel costs the equivalent of nearly $300.
The idea of combining phone functionality into a wristwatch is nothing new, with Kempler & Strauss, Samsung and LG, among others, all trying their hand at similar projects. [via DVice]
