ooVoo launches mobile app for Android phones

Free video chat provider ooVoo detailed launch of the ooVoo Mobile service for Android devices on Wednesday with a tease of Apple plans. The app allows up to six users to participate in a video call at the same time, even with high video quality. This is also the first time desktop ooVoo users can video chat with mobile users.

The technology does require a fast network connection for the best results, and ooVoo mentions Verizon's LTE or Sprint's WiMAX by name. The chat will, however, work over Wi-Fi and 3G connections as well. ooVoo mobile allows for free voice calls between ooVoo customers as well as text messages and video calls to people not on ooVoo through a web browser.

Thus far, the app is compatible with the HTC Evo 4G and Samsung Epic 4G, but ooVoo promises to bring it to other devices, including the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad, early next year.
