Yahoo Video stops uploads, will pull videos

Yahoo cautioned users that Yahoo Video will no longer accept video uploads, and will get rid of all user-generated content as well. While uploading was cut off today, December 15, the existing content will be pulled starting from March 15. Yahoo is apologetic, but offers no explanation for the reasons behind the move.

It's possible Yahoo will instead point users to Flickr, which began hosting videos back in 2008. A letter sent to users also reveals that other than videos, user profiles, ratings, favorites and playlists will also be pulled from the site.

Yahoo is giving users the option to download their videos from the site with a software utility on their profile page. It then suggests uploading the videos to the Flickr site.

For some reason, Yahoo video never succeeded compared to YouTube, Vimeo or other hosting sites. [via TechCrunch]
