Dell Venue brings touch-only Android 2.2

Dell today confirmed the existence of the Thunder through a launch through Korean carrier KT. Now called the Venue, it has the same 4.1-inch, 480x800 AMOLED screen as the Venue Pro but with a curved Gorilla Glass touchscreen as its only input; the non-flat surface reportedly improves the grip. Similarly, it drops Windows Phone 7 in favor of Android 2.2 and is much closer to stock than the Aero or Streak.

Not all details of the phone are known, though based on leaks it should have a 1GHz Snapdragon chip, 512MB of RAM and 802.11n Wi-Fi. KT needs a version with both GSM and HSPA-based 3G, although it's not clear whether it supports AT&T, T-Mobile or other American carriers. Dell hasn't said if or when it plans to move the phone to Android 2.3.

The Venue is due to reach KT by the end of December. US releases weren't mentioned, but the phone is a strong candidate to show at Dell's CES press event in early January. [via SlashGear]
