Nexus S delayed, discounted in the UK

The Google Nexus S smartphone has been delayed in the UK until December 22 from its original December 16 ship date. No reasons for this delay are known at retailer Carphone Warehouse, but the price has dropped by 22 percent in exchange. The discount is the equivalent of $190, with the unlocked, SIM-free device priced at nearly $670 in the UK.

Those who preordered the handset for its original $850 equivalent are expected to receive a refund for the difference, though nothing to this effect has been announced. Also reduced is the minimum monthly subscription that would give users the handset for free. It is now priced at the equivalent of $47 per month, or $8 less than first announced.

The Nexus S is the first handset to ship with Android 2.3 and sports a four-inch touchscreen, a 1GHz Hummingbird CPU, a five-megapixel camera, 802.11n Wi-Fi and GPS. It comes with 16GB of storage built-in, but no microSD slot, and stands out with both a front video camera and NFC wireless.
