Samsung Bada 2.0 coming next year with NFC, more

At the developer day held recently in South Korea, Samsung highlighted some of the features of its upcoming Bada 2.0 OS for smartphones. The operating system is currently in version 1.2 and was first introduced in the Wave. The update is coming next year and will bring with it Near Field Communication (NFC) support for payments, a new multitasking ability and support for Macs and Linux in the SDK.

The user interface and home screen will likewise be improved, with new animation effects, personalization options and layout management. Security will also be improved, with DRM and Secure I/O now part of the software. Flash Lite 4 will be supported in the new web browser as well.

At the same time, Samsung said it expects to sell more than 10 million Bada-powered devices in the first half of 2011, which compares favorably to the five million handsets that will have been sold in 2010. Which devices will get Bada 2.0 hasn't been revealed but may be made public at Mobile World Congress in February. [via SamsungHub]
