WakeMate finally near shipping for iPhone, Android

WakeMate late Sunday confirmed that it was ready to ship its long-planned, self-titled sleep helper add-on. The combination of special wristband and mobile app should ship in time for Christmas Eve for both initial pre-orders and anyone who orders at overnight rates before 11PM on December 22. International orders aren't yet going out due to the approval process and supply issues.

The company is noting that those who put down a deposit will have it refunded and should be getting a lower $50 price. New customers will pay $60.

WakeMate has been in development for almost a year and works on actigraphy, which measures sleep habits to track the optimal waking period. The mobile app both collects the data and wakes its owner somewhere within the 20 minutes before the set alarm time to avoid grogginess. Over time, the analysis can reveal whether sleep is good and help correct over- or under-sleeping.

The app should be free and will work with iPhones, iPods and iPads as well as Android and BlackBerry hardware.
