S Ericsson may call PlayStation phone Xperia Play

Sony Ericsson's Z1 PlayStation phone may be labeled the Xperia Play when it ships. The phone maker has filed for four European trademarks that include Xperia Play as well as Xperia Arc, Xperia Duo and Xperia Neo, possibly including either variants on the Z1's design or new phones due to ship in a similar timeframe. A key PR firm, Jung Relations, is also known to have registered XperiaPlay.com as well as its .net and .org equivalents.

The phone was already expected to carry an Xperia badge rather than fit solely under the PlayStation name.

Sony Ericsson may ship the phone in April and should have it running Android 2.3 on a 1GHz processor with an eight-megapixel camera. The phone will have a dedicated PlayStation app and built-in support for its special PSP-style controls. [via PocketNow and Xperia X10 Blog]
