Sources confirm launch February date
Sony Ericsson will launch the hotly anticipated Playstation phone in April claim 'sources familiar' with the matter according to Pocket-lint. The launch will by-pass CES 2011 Las Vegaas in favor of the Mobile World Congress Barcelona where Sony plans to hold a Sunday press conference. The February launch date will then be followed with the release of the device in April, which is line with comments by Sony Ericsson's CEO Bert Nordberg's recent comments that he wants to create a lot of "noise" at the Mobile World Congress.
Sony has been struggling to maintain interest in its PSP platform with sales flatlining in the face of Apple's iPod touch which is outselling the PSP and Nintendo DS combined. The launch of a phone with Playstation-quality gaming is seen as a crucial step in recovering lost ground.
The phone is said to feature a second generation 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, 512MB RAM, 1GB ROM and a screen in the range of 3.7-inches to 4.1-inches. It is also expected to be running the latest version of Android, version 2.3 (Gingerbread). [via Pocket-lint]
