Cliq XT Android 2.2 update not coming this year

Motorola's latest software upgrade timeline (below) has revealed that the phone maker will not issue an Android 2.1 upgrade for its Cliq XT handset anytime soon. The update was planned for a late 2010 release for the T-Mobile version of the device, but the timeline reveals additional testing is ongoing and more information will be provided as it becomes available. At the same time, those who purchased their Cliq XT through Walmart's Family Mobile service will not get a software update at all and will stay on 1.5.

The timeline also hasn't revealed any more of when Android 2.2 will arrive for Motorola handsets that haven't already received the upgrade.

Android 2.1 would bring much wider support for apps, an updated Android Market, new widgets and better Exchange support. It would be customized with Motorola's latest Motoblur interface as well. [via PhoneDog]
