T-Mobile ad jabs ATT for capping iPhone FaceTime

T-Mobile has quietly put out another TV commercial (below) blaming AT&T for the iPhone's Wi-Fi only limit on FaceTime. The 30-second short has the personified iPhone 4 showing a FaceTime call to his mother, only to glitch and break up the moment he leaves AT&T's "Wi-Fi zone." A phone like the myTouch 4G isn't limited; "not cool, AT&T," T-Mobile's stand-in Carly says.

AT&T was never directly cited as a reason for FaceTime being limited to Wi-Fi when it was introduced with the iPhone 4 this summer, but most have pointed to it as the likely main influence. It has often been the first or only carrier in the world to lack of an iPhone is a problem, but whether or not one is close is still unknown. Aside from brief mentions, T-Mobile hasn't usually been included in talk of any US iPhone expansion plans.

Much of T-Mobile's current advantage in video chat comes from having both an HSPA+ 3G network and devices like the myTouch 4G and G2 that can take advantage of the faster speeds. AT&T is already deploying an HSPA+ network but doesn't have more than modems so far.

    Uhh...

They have to dig to find one thing that the iPhone can do in some cases and can't do in other cases... What's the point? Plus they leave out the facts that a) not many people use the feature and d) there is an app that lets you do it over 3G.
