ASUS previews Eee Pad EP101TC in photos

ASUS today geared up for its CES unveilings by providing a teaser of the smaller of its two Eee Pads, the EP101TC. The 10-inch slate should be relatively thin and upscale, with a carbon-effect textured back. Also on show at Style are HDMI, USB 3.0 and a keyboard attachment, likely a dock, that should follow the basic philosophy of attachments like those for the iPad and Galaxy Tab.

Without the device being turned on, little has been shown of the OS. As unveiled at Computex, however, it should be the first tablet to use Windows Embedded Compact 7 and would have a version of Windows CE much more optimized for multi-touch tablets as a result. Using the OS might dictate an ARM processor and could be key to the originally promised 10 hours of battery life.

At least one other tablet, the EP121, should be arriving at the same time but will be very different with a 12-inch screen, an ultra-low voltage Core i5 and desktop Windows 7. Chances exist for a smaller Windows 7 tablet using the new Oak Trail platform for Atom as well as an Android model that could be using NVIDIA's high performance Tegra 2.

It's unclear how soon any of these tablets will ship after their CES appearances, but ASUS usually avoids giving out release information until it's ready to ship in a given country.
