Insider trading suits expand with Marvell, NVIDIA

A slew of insider trading arrests have expanded today to include leaks to Marvell and NVIDIA. Fremont, California-based Winifred Jiau was accused of conspiracy and security fraud for allegedly leaking out details from the ARM and graphics chip makers between September 2006 and December 2008. Jiau was a consultant for Primary Global Research, a networking firm that linked investment groups with technology advisors.

Some of the tips included very accurate financial results for both of the companies days before the information was made public. It's not known if any technical secrets escaped at the same time, as was the case in leaks from Apple and AMD. The earlier case also included James Fleishman, a Primary Global salesman.

A bail hearing for Jiau was scheduled for January 3.

Such leaks have come under increasing US government scrutiny as analysts have been increasingly turning to information outside of official releases or other publicly accessible data. Many analysts have made reference to supply channel checks and other techniques that in many cases have confirmed or supported production plans for current and future devices. [via Reuters]
