Amazon top 2010 list has Kindle, MacBook Pro

Amazon wrapped up the year on Thursday with word that itself and Apple topped the lists of its most popular items of the year. The Kindle with Wi-Fi unsurprisingly topped both the bestseller and wish list charts for electronics, but Apple had unusual success in computers. The 13-inch MacBook Pro was both the bestselling notebook on Amazon and the most wished for, although the most gifted was a low-end, 15.6-inch Toshiba Satellite.

Without some halo devices like the iPhone, the cellphone category was more deviced. The bestselling phone was the Android-based Samsung Captivate for AT&T, but the most desired was the low-end LG Cookie. The most gifted was, unusually, Nokia's Maemo-running N900.

Software was led by Office 2010 in both actual sales and wish lists, but it was Adobe's Photoshop Elements 9 that was gifted the most often.

Amazon isn't a direct reflection of the marketplace as it often doesn't include major products that may only sell from the companies themselves or at retail. The results nonetheless underscore both the Kindle's continued lead in e-reading as well as Apple's tendency to control the high-end notebook market. The online retailer sells the iPad but didn't break down sales to include the tablet category; the iPad there is in second place after the recent launch of the Archos 70.
