MSI all-in-ones shown ahead of CES 2011

MSI today gave an early look at the all-in-one Wind Top desktops it will show at CES, including a pair of new concepts. The Butterfly is a unique attempt to address criticisms from Apple and others that using an upright touchscreen can be tiring. The 10-point multitouch LCD slides down and out, letting users more comfortably touch it when necessary but bring it back to its regular position for mouse and keyboard use.

The Angelow concept is a more straightforward design built with upscale components; its display is a centerpiece, though what it does over rivals hasn't been mentioned. Performance would be a focus as well, though no specs were given.

More conventional all-in-ones are getting an update at the show and will focus both on Intel's Sandy Bridge and AMD's Fusion platforms. The 22-inch AE220 and 24-inch AE2410 both use second-generation Core chips. MSI claimed to give the two DirectX 11-capable integrated graphics to run their 1080p touchscreen displays, although Intel's design is only known so far to support DirectX 10. Either size of desktop has USB 3.0 ports that can charge devices up to 40 percent faster than usual.

The smallest of the group, the 20-inch AE2050, also runs a 1080p screen but is based on AMD's Fusion platform. It uses an unspecified chip based on AMD's Brazos nettop platform that, while cheap, has enough graphics power in the Radeon HD 6310 to handle DirectX 11 graphics and HD video. It too carries USB 3.0 and the matching fast-charge technique.

More details might appear at CES itself, but MSI has traditionally reserved full details for regional launches. [via Notebook Italia]
