HP adds 100B all-in-one and new Compaqs for 2011
HP on Tuesday catered to its business desktop users with four new PCs that brought out its first all-in-one aimed chiefly at small business owners. The simply titled 100B is designed for companies that want a cheap computer they can get running quickly. AMD's new 1.6GHz E-350 Fusion chip both keeps the cost down but also gives it enough visual performance to handle HD video on its 20-inch, 1600x900 displays.
The system can hold up to 8GB of RAM and a 750GB hard drive; it hasn't given out the minimum RAM but promises at least a 250GB disk. HP's chief focuses are on its low power, which drops under 90W for the entire display and system, and on options for more professional operating systems like Red Flag Linux and Windows 7 Professional. Pricing on the 100B will start at $500 when it ships in February.
Three Compaq-branded towers, the 4000 Pro, 6200 Pro and 8200 Elite, also made their debut today. The 4000 Pro is an entry-level design designed to cater to those held back by older peripherals with Celeron, Pentium, Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Quad processors as well as a large number of legacy ports. A choice of the 6200 Pro gives mid-range Intel Sandy Bridge chips between the Core i3 and i7 ranges; HP outfits it with more modern peripheral support, sizes from ultra-slim to minitower, and headroom for both 16GB of RAM and a 1TB hard drive (or a 160GB SSD) in its best configurations. At the top, the 8200 Elite uses the same processor picks as the 6200 but adds the option of vPro remote control.
The Compaq 4000 Pro bows first of the three conventional desktops and ships in February for $499, to be quickly followed by the 8200 Elite on March 7 for $679 and the 6200 Pro on March 28 for $619.
At the most basic, HP has rolled out a new thin client computer, the t5500 series. It runs on mobile operating systems like Windows CE or Windows Embedded and is designed to put nearly all the load on the server, using significant hardware only to accelerate dual DVI displays, media and USB peripherals. It comes with a Symantec firewall already installed and ships January 10 for $249.
