Sony, Panasonic, Samsung among supporters

Rental outfit Netflix has announced a development effort that will see a Netflix One-Click button placed on remotes for Internet-enabled TVs and Blu-ray players. The button will offer direct access to the company's streaming service, bypassing other menu screens. Initial remotes with the button are expected in the spring.

Among the companies on board for TVs so far are Sony, Sharp and Toshiba. In terms of Blu-ray players, the previous three companies will be joined by Samsung, Panasonic, Memorex, Haier and Best Buy's Dynex brand. The button will also appear on remotes for media set-tops from Boxee, Iomega and Roku.

Netflix's streaming-only option costs $8 per month; slightly more expensive options combine it with DVD or Blu-ray mailers.
