updated 11:20 am EST, Wed January 5, 2011

Android tablet support also in works

Comcast will soon allow people to watch live and on-demand TV through iPads and Android-based tablets, the cable company has announced. Many of the details of the arrangement have yet to be disclosed. The on-demand content, at least, will include just under 3,000 hours of movies and shows, and be served through the cable company's Xfinity TV iPad app. At the moment the app serves mainly as a guide and remote control.

Beyond on-demand video, Comcast is promising that future versions of the app will include social networking features. Users will be able to post about shows they're watching, or use a component called MyTV to send recommendations to others. On-demand iPad video is due "in the coming weeks," according to Comcast; everything else is expected only "later this year."

    Yes!

Unfortunately, connections will be spotty. And if you watch more than 15 minutes of video consecutively, your bandwidth will be throttled.
