Samsung intros 9-Series notebook to rival MacBook Air

Samsung has introduced a new notebook, the 9 Series, with a feature set that competes directly with other small notebooks such as the MacBook Air. The device integrates a 13.3-inch display with LED backlighting, a 100,000:1 contrast ratio, and 400-nit brightness. An ambient light sensor automatically adjusts display brightness and keyboard backlighting.
The 9 Series offers a profile slightly thinner than the 11- and 13-inch MacBook Air, with a housing measuring just 0.62-inches thick. The frame and housing is built from an aluminum alloy, helping to keep the weight under three pounds.
The notebook is powered by Intel's second-generation 1.4GHz Core i5 processor, while the lithium-polymer battery is claimed to last for an average of 6.5 hours. The company suggests its new battery design offers a significant jump in lifespan, reaching 1,000 charging cycles or three years.
The 9 Series is scheduled to ship in February for $1,599. The basic configuration offers 4GB of DDR3 RAM and a 128GB SSD, while a WiMAX modem is optional.
