Toshiba ports NB500 and Camileo S30 to US
Toshiba at CES brought two lineups to the US for the first time. The NB305 brings the same dual-core, 1.5GHz Atom N550 chip from the European NB520 but in the familiar form factor of earlier Toshiba netbooks. It carries 1GB of RAM and a 250GB hard drive and will ship for $380 on January 9.
The lone NB500 series entry for the US, the NB505, is a single-core, 1.66GHz Atom N455 system. It carries the same textured grip and overall new looks as the European model but doesn't have the advanced embedded speakers. It too has a 250GB hard drive but will cost $300 when it ships the same day as the NB305.
Toshiba has similarly exported its Camileo S30 to the US. The vertical camera shoots in 1080p with a fixed zoom but stabilized lens. Control is handled chiefly through its swiveling touchscreen, and SD cards (up to SDXC) handle storage.
It ships immediately for $180.
