Asphalt 5, others to help expand Viera's IPTV
Gameloft and Panasonic today showed the former's Asphalt 5 running in HD 3D on Panasonic's Viera HDTV at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. Asphalt 5 and two other games, Near-Orbit Vanguard Alliance (N.O.V.A.) and Uno will be directly accessible through the just-unveiled Viera Connect IPTV service available in Viera HDTVs. The games, which will launch later this year, are part of an overall expansion of the Viera Connect service.
The Viera Connect service (and its attendant Viera Connect Market, which also launched today) will expand in 2011 to add more social networking, fitness, gaming, news and information, sports and web video options to the existing Viera Cast service. In addition to the Gameloft games, Panasonic plans to add staple entertainment sites like Facebook, Hulu Plus, Dailymotion, CinemaNow, Napster and other gaming options to the service.
Gameloft will optimize the games for the 3D HDTV experience, and include online multiplayer features. Asphalt 5 is part of the company's popular Asphalt racing franchise, which was sold over 20M units. The games will be available via the Viera Connect Marketplace, though no specific launch date was announced.
Gameloft's offerings will be joined by others from companies like Accedo, Aim At Entertainment, Oberon and more.
