Xperia Play shown running PS One BIN games
A video, embedded below, has popped up that shows off the upcoming Xperia Play running classic PlayStation games. These include Resident Evil 2 and Rage Racer. The handset hasn't yet been officially announced by either Sony or Ericsson, and the games aren't likely to be officially sanctioned at first. The footage showed a game emulator, ROM Buddy, being used to launch both games from BIN files, which are images ripped from original game discs.
The device should sport a touchscreen that slides to reveal hardware, PSP-style button gaming controls. At CES last week, Sony hinted at the existence of the Xperia Play but didn't officially announce it.
A leak from last week indicates the device will have a Qualcomm Adreno 205 GPU paired with a 1GHz Snapdragon QSD8255 at its heart. It should also bring with it a 1,500mAh battery and a 4-inch, 854x480 display. It is expected to get 512MB of RAM, 512 of ROM, a microSD slot, SIM slot, micro-USB port and a five-megapixel camera equipped with an LED flash. [via Next-Gen]
