Cisco’s Cius Enterprise tablet set to arrive on Verizon LTE

Android tablet, video conferencing focused
The Cisco Cius Enterprise tablet first announced unveiled in June 2010 is set to land on Verizon’s LTE network. The Android-based tablet is designed to leverage Cisco’s expertise in Enterprise video conferencing, as well as serve as a general purpose tablet. The two companies used CES 2011 to announce the partnership and said that the device would start shipping in March after several months of testing in real-world Enterprise contexts.
The Cius will be 4G-capable but will also be able to default to Verizon’s 3G network where Verizon’s LTE coverage ends. The tablet is designed to run Cisco’s Enterprise collaboration applications on its 7-inch screen and also incorporates Wi-Fi to supplement its phone network connectivity. Its front camera captures real-time 720p video and its rear camera can be used for taking and sending still shots as well as live streaming. The Cius also supports Cisco’s VPN connections and WebEx.
Verizon has yet to settle on data plans for the device as the video conferencing focus for the device will inevitably mean high volumes of data when used over the phone network.
