Research conducted at Albany Nanotech Complex

IBM and Samsung have announced a new partnership that aims to expand research into new semiconductor materials, manufacturing processes and other technologies. The collaborative efforts are said to be focused on semiconductors for a wide range of potential applications such as smartphones or communications infrastructure.

The new agreement reportedly reviews the companies' existing joint process development agreement (JDA) focused on 20nm technology. Scientists and engineers will join forces at the Albany Nanotech Complex in Albany, NY.

The announcement did not include further details regarding emerging technology, or a time-frame for 20nm development.
