Google TV with ARM underpinnings coming soon

An unnamed but "very high authority" source at Google has confirmed that an ARM-based Google TV product is coming out, ARMDevices said on Friday. The rumors of such a device are nothing new, with ARM linked to discussions with Google on just such an undertaking as far back as November. Technical details of such a product were still unknown, however.

The collaboration would also likely drop the price of Google TV hardware, even lower than the $300 Logitech offering, the Revue and Sony's $400 Blu-ray player. More Google TV products are due from the likes of Vizio, Toshiba, Samsung, Sharp, LG and others.

"If Google TV is to be mainstream, it must be built on a lower power system," ARM President Tudor Brown said in November, "on lower cost technology."

Exactly how low the price point of Google TV on ARM hardware will go remains to be seen when a more official announcement is made.
