Sanyo outs two new advanced projectors

Sanyo has just introduced two new projectors, the interactive PLC-WL2503 and short-throw, ultra-efficient PLC-XU4000. The former has WXGA resolution and uses a 3LCD design with a pen and pointer that allows users to make annotations on any projection surface.

The pen and pointer contain an IR transmitter, and when either is pressed against the screen or wall surface, it generates the IR signal that is detected by a camera module on the front of the projector. The signal is sent to the connected PC via USB and display the annotation on the screen. The input is compatible with Windows XP onwards as well as Mac OS X.

Other, more traditional specs of the projector include 2,500 lumens of brightness and a 500:1 contrast ratio. The ultra-short throw lens can create images sized at between 60 and 110 inches at 47 inches away.

The PLC-WL2503 will cost $1,696 when it launches later this month.

The XGA PLC-XU4000 has a high 4,000 lumens brightness and weighs 7lbs, making it easy to transport. The contrast ratio is 2,000:1, and Sanyo claims a power consumption reduction of up to 69 percent compared to similar projectors from competitors. The savings come from boosting the lamp control range by 40 percent, up to 70. Video signal is always analyzed, and the lamp brightness automatically adjusted.

The PLC-XU4000 also ships this month for $1,546.
