Handsets offer smaller screens, compact housings

HTC appears to be readying several new handsets aimed at budget-conscious buyers. Leaked images, posted on Pocketnow, show an Android offering and a similar device that is believed to run BREW. The Android smartphone offers the standard set of soft keys below its small touchscreen, while a directional pad and hardware buttons for phone calls are located near the bottom edge of the facade.

The second device closely resembles HTC's Smart handset, but with a slightly different button configuration. Interestingly enough, the new button layout appeared in early leaked images of the original Smart but was changed before the device was formally unveiled.

Separate leaks surrounding the Smart's successor suggest the device will add Wi-Fi and Office utilities for document editing.

Launch dates and pricing for both handsets remain unclear, however the devices may appear next month at Mobile World Congress.
