Google pushes Nexus S' text messaging bug fix

updated 09:25 pm EST, Fri January 21, 2011

Google Nexus S text message fix now live

As hinted earlier, Google and Samsung said they had rolled out the text messaging bug fix for the Nexus S. The Android 2.3.2 update fixes one of the most longstanding bugs in Android, which would text the wrong person at random regardless of the intended recipient. The text bug is the only known issue fixed and doesn't touch on call reboot or Bluetooth streaming bugs.

It's not clear if or when Google will have a chance to patch the flaw out of earlier versions of Android. The random SMS bug has been present since at least Android 2.1, but the customized interfaces and extra carrier testing may prevent timely upgrades and could leave some models untouched. The Nexus S' use of a pure version of Android was key to its getting the update quickly.
