Google web weather for Android and iPhone now live

Google today gave both Android and iPhone users a second bonus today with a real-time, web-based weather app. A search for "weather" in the mobile browser will show the current weather, including based on the user's position. Phone owners get the forecast and can drag a live slider to see how the forecast is expected to change over the course of the next 12 hours.

The code only needs a mobile browser with HTML5 support, although live location info needs either real GPS or a device like an iPod touch that can triangulate when on Wi-Fi. Search is only available in English and doesn't yet have support for BlackBerry 6 or other platforms with some level of HTML5 support.

    Trivia, Kinda

Not to nitpick or anything, but location services based on wifi is not via triangulation (that's for cell towers), but by looking up the registered location of the wifi network you're connected to.

    No joy on iPad.

It's just a plain old web search. Anyone know how to force this result with a specific URL?

    No joy on my Evo

Same thing, just a plain web page. It worked fine on my co-workers iPhone though
