Negotiations said to be in final stages

Toshiba is reportedly finalizing an outsourcing agreement that will move a portion of the company's chip fabrication to AMD spinoff GlobalFoundries. In an interview with the Japanese paper Nikkei, GlobalFoundries CEO Doug Grose noted that both of the companies are currently in the late stages of negotiating terms for the collaboration.

The announcement marks Toshiba's latest outsourcing move, following recent reports of a separate agreement with chip maker Samsung. Toshiba has maintained that it will still handle chip design and some production, though outsourcing of final assembly will likely continue to expand.

Aside from the outsourcing agreements, the company recently disclosed a reorganization plan that will split its microprocessor teams into a system chip group and a separate entity for imaging chips and other components. [via Reuters]
