Dell Alienware M11x hinge fix due in March or so

A Dell employee, via the comapany's community forums, has announced it will begin the hinge repair program for Alienware M11x gaming notebooks this spring. A definitive date for the start of the program isn't available, however, as forum liaison Chris Mixon said it's dependant on a third party vendor. Owners of the notebook with broken or creaky hinges will get it fixed under the program regardless of whether their notebooks are still covered under the warranty period.

Dell is being apologetic for the length of time it has taken to address the issue. Existing Alienware owners were nonetheless concerned as to whether the new hinges are redesigned and will not again eventually break or cause the same symptoms as the existing models. The M11x uses a typical two-piece hinge rather than the sturdier barrel hinges of MacBooks and some systems from Sony and other manufacturers, creating a possible weak point without major changes elsewhere.
