LTE-Advanced tested at 600Mbps in Korea

The South Korean government's Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) has demoed one of the first public instances of LTE-Advanced. A test mobile media broadcast system peaked at 600Mbps, or six times faster than regular LTE, and was capable of speeds that could easily outperform most landlines. The agency downloaded a CD-sized 700MB movie in 9.3 seconds and could stream 3D TV even while roaming in a test vehicle.

The technology is still in its early stages and wouldn't be ready in Korea until 2014, or four years after the first standard LTE networks went live in the US. A single-chip LTE-Advanced design should be ready in the next three years. AT&T, Verizon and most major North American and European carriers will likely have completed their LTE networks by then but might have a quicker path to upgrades than the leap from 3G. Sounds great

With that, one could hit the monthly cap in less than a minute.

could it compete with cable or DSL?

if they could handle the capacity... imagine if you could just pay once for your internet connection. No separate charges for home, then again for your phone, then again for your tablet.

I bet it can also pull $700 from your credit card in a whopping 9.3 seconds too... Can't imagine what that kind of data plan would charge.

    yawn

Test situations in a test scenario, and I'm sure that was 'best case'. Hey, what happens when you've got 400 other people on the same tower?
