Motorola Droid Bionic, Atrix may suffer major power flaw

Moto Droid Bionic and Atrix face serious PMU bug

(Update: denied) Motorola's Droid Bionic and possibly Atrix 4G could be hit by a major power bug that could sabotage their launches, tipsters have said in the past few days. Both dual-core smartphones reportedly have an issue detected in the pre-release stage with the power management unit that triggers "severe" overheating that can affect reception, booting and consistent power use. One of the two sources in HowardForums, known Motorola insider xbernaut, claimed the issue was "unfixable" and could persist for launch devices, not just prototypes.

It's unclear if there's any connection to the use of NVIDIA's Tegra 2, but no word has emerged of LG's Tegra 2 phones facing similar obstacles. Regardless, the issue has given cause for concern at the forum since xbernaut has historically been enthusiastic about pre-launch Motorola phones. Any negativity could be interpreted as a serious problem.

Such claims are controversial and haven't been officially confirmed or denied by Motorola. Teething hardware bugs are often sorted out in the prototype stage and could be non-issues by the time the two ship, which may be March 1 for the Atrix 4G on AT&T and early spring for Verizon's Droid Bionic. Whether or not xbernaut or others are using the latest prototypes isn't evident.

The appearance of the issues just weeks before launch could still be a factor. If it represented late-stage testing, the devices could face delays and might miss their shipping targets.

Update: Motorola has officially denied the claims and says the phones should ship on time.

    I honestly...

...can't believe this has just been posted as news. Someone on a forum has said there is a fault and said he'll provide no proof, that's it? Am I missing something?
