Sony talks NGP battery life and relative pricing

Sony's SCEA president Jack Tretton gave hints in an interview that the NGP might ease some of the worries on battery life, but not necessarily on price. He stressed that the company would "certainly look to improve" on the PSP's battery life even with the five-inch screen and quad-core hardware. Engadget in sitting down with Tretton figured that meant more than the 4.5 to seven hours of typical use.

On price, the executive alluded to the device being relatively expensive. More powerful hardware and good content could entice someone to pay more in relation to a device like the Nintendo 3DS. "I think if the quality's there, then the people will find a way to buy it, within reason," he said.

Tretton didn't confirm the Wi-Fi models like his European counterpart but did note that PlayStation Suite would carry more than just games. The Suite requires Android 2.3 and should work on the Nexus S along with any other device kept up to date.

No direct mention was made of the Xperia Play, but he dropped hints that he was aware of public knowledge of the PlayStation phone and the Mobile World Congress unveil date. "Stay tuned," he said.
