Intel set to introduce several MeeGo tablets in June

Devices to be equipped MeeGo 1.2

Intel is reportedly set to introduce several new tablets based on MeeGo OS sometime in June. The company allegedly disclosed limited information to several developers that have been invited to preview the platform, according to a Fudzilla report. If the details are accurate, the timing likely coincides with the Computex expo in Taipei.

The developers are said to be working with a reference design based on single-core Oak Trail chipsets. Intel in June of last year showed off a MeeGo-based tablet prototype featuring a WiMAX radio for 4G broadband.

Intel and Nokia are said to be adding more tablet optimizations to the MeeGo OS, following a strategy similar to Google's Android development. Most companies working with MeeGo appear to be waiting for the tablet features before shipping new hardware, though a release date for MeeGo 1.2 has yet to be publicly announced.

The tablets to be unveiled in June are not expected to ship until the third quarter of the year, around the same time Intel launches its App Up portal for tablet apps.
